The moment of truth struck today, on a busy subway. A young lady got up and offered me her seat. I declined but thought the time had come to buy a wig.

Suzi and I had free guide service today, a fine well spoken lawyer friend of hers she met in Borneo. He led us through fancy streets where tourists rarely wander and treated us to a beer in the English Garden. He, too, only works to travel. Kindred spirits, it seems to me.

Along an Isar River canal that flows rapidly down from the Alps through the English Garden is a spot where enthusiasts practice their sport of surfing. We watched them for quite a while, fascinated by their skill.

We were invited by friends to dinner. A challenge for sure since our diet is very low carbs. Germans live on carbs so how was this going to be possible – no bread, no rice, no noodles. Well, our hosts were well up to the challenge and put on a splendid dinner for us. How accommodating can people be!

It was a long subway ride home and well after midnight before we tucked ourselves into bed.
