As we tooled along the Autobahn at 85-90 miles per hour, being passed constantly by cars going much faster, we saw that a minor detour would take us by the namesake town of Martinsheim. We checked it out. Like so many other towns in Germany it was filled with solar panels, a deliberate government goal of reducing the dependency on imported energy.
