Munich – A Neighborhood Walk
Posted on December 11, 2013
Europe, front end of winter, no snow. Rats. But we were able to take in miles of urban landscape in a full day of walking. We had a full agenda of things to see and do and got almost half of our list done. Not too bad for footloose tourists. We so enjoyed the architecture, the street scene, the people and what they were doing.
We hung out for a while at the Academie des Beaux Arts admiring the four Doric style limestone columns holding up the portico. They were there due to a monumental engineering screwup, the story to come later.
More columns were to be found at the nearby university but we could not locate them after turning the place nearly upside down. But somehow we did enter a classic lecture hall where I had taken a class lo these many years ago. Nothing seems to have changed.
Down Ludwigstrasse we encountered a tall man, easily spotted on Google Earth. Amazing.
And as usual, many enjoyable details were to be seen.
This wraps up the before lunch excursion. See you later.
