We arrived in Dijon just minutes before we were to meet the fellow who would pass us the keys to our Airbnb apartment. Fortunately we had learned pretty quickly how to program the navigator in our blessed German Audi so we were able to drive crooked streets to our destination without error. We had not been so lucky with the navigation unit on the French Renault we had had for three weeks, which we were never able to use, even with the help of a young experienced friend in Freiburg.

We were so lucky to find a parking spot just a block away from our destination. But in that single block, as we trudged along with our suitcases, I found lots to photograph, which in the end typified for us the whole of Dijon. Here’s a look at some of the things we saw right away. A few pleased us, many didn’t.

Typical building across the street, rather seedy.

Now we’ll venture further afield as we head toward the heart of the city.

Great little hand rail. Miss that bottom step and you are flat in the street.

There must be at least one million window grills in Dijon that look just like this one. Even on lawyers offices.
